The Koko Crater Stairs Hike is a popular hike located in Hawaii Kai on the island of Oahu. The trail follows an abandoned World War II tramway up the side of the crater and consists of around 1,100 “stairs” (actually railway ties). Local fitness buffs and novice hikers alike rise to the challenge of tackling the Stairs, and the difficult trek has often been called “the ultimate workout.” Some take the steps at a run and others take their time, stopping to enjoy the breath-taking view along the way. Whatever your fitness level or hiking experience, the hike is definitely worth your time, and should take no more than an hour or so (some have done it in under ten minutes!). Don’t forget to take some time to soak in that view at the top, though!
